📋 Before You Go: The Vaccines & Wellness Checklist

Low-cost vaccine clinics and wellness days are incredible resources, but they operate very differently than traditional vet appointments. To save yourself time and keep your pet safe, run through this quick checklist before heading out:

• Confirm the Schedule and Format: Many low-cost vaccine clinics operate as pop-up events, mobile clinics, or set walk-in hours rather than traditional appointments [Sat, Oct 3, 2026]. Always check the resource’s official page or social media the morning of the event to ensure the hours haven't changed due to weather or supply limits [Sat, Oct 3, 2026].
• Bring Previous Medical Records: If your pet has ever received vaccines before, bring their paper records or rabid certificates with you. This ensures the veterinary team doesn't accidentally over-vaccinate your pet and helps them determine exactly which booster shots are due.
• Secure Your Pet Properly: Expect waiting areas to be highly crowded with anxious animals. For everyone's safety, dogs must be on a short, secure, non-retractable leash. Cats must remain entirely inside a secure, hard-sided plastic carrier until you are inside the exam space.
• Know the Rabies Law Requirements: In Georgia, pet owners must keep dogs and cats current on their rabies vaccinations. If your pet is getting a 3-year rabies shot, clinics will usually require you to show physical proof of their past, unexpired rabies certificate. Otherwise, they can only administer a 1-year vaccine.
• Prepare for Out-of-Pocket Product Costs: While the wellness exam or core shots might be free or low-cost, additional preventative items like heartworm tests, flea and tick medication, and microchips usually carry separate fees.
